Hi, my name is Steve Halsell, MA, LPC, NCC, and I am a WAH alum from 03' (Crooked Creek, September). I was also part of the Michigan-based Hearts Alive and Free (WAH) retreat as a worship leader for a couple of years.  Most recently, I am an alum of the Advanced retreat from November '13. I have been a fan of this message from the beginning. My wife is too, and she is an alum of Captivating and Captivating Advanced. Together we are intercessors. Chances are if we've talked to someone about God, we've mentioned an Eldredge book. :  )

Anyway, I am in my sweet spot as a counselor when I get to address the hearts of men, especially Christian men. My niche is sexual addiction, porn addiction, and other sexually-related issues. I worked a couple of years almost exclusively with the parole sex offender population. So I've seen the gamut of sexual issues for men. I have sought further training, including through the American Association of Christian Counselors, as well as other secular sources. I make use of Patrick Carnes, Mark Laaser, Nate Larkin, and various other Christian and secular experts in this field. Soon I will attend training for the Genesis Process, created by Michael Dye. I have some local allies in groups, including Dunamai men's group, Celebrate Recovery, Sex Addicts Anonymous, and Sexaholics Anonymous.

Maybe you, or someone you know could use my help. Feel free to contact me for a free phone consultation.

I am available via phone, email, Facetime, or Skype, or Google video for counseling (if you are in Michigan), and I have an office in Holt, MI.

Highly Reccomend
It has been an awesome experience getting to know Steve and being in counseling with him. He has helped me clear a lot of the baggage I have had with multiple different people and issues in my life. I do not know where I would be without his help. I went to different groups and other things, but they were of little help without the necessity of dealing with the emotions and feelings I had on the inside. Steve does this with biblical wisdom and encouraging insight. He has helped me learn to deal with feelings and things that I have bypassed for years. I'm very thankful for his help and guidance!

fantastic Christian counselor
I am a professional guy in the Lansing area, married with children, and a Christian. I prefer not to reveal my identity. I have been working with Steve for about six months to deal with issues pertaining to internet pornography addiction, compulsive masturbation, and same-sex attraction. All three of these issues have been a source of deep shame and embarrassment to me, and are uncomfortable for me to talk about. I really don't want to admit to anyone that I have these kinds of issues. Steve created an atmosphere in which I felt safe to share my deepest secrets and my darkest shame. He has helped me tremendously. I can't say that it has been easy work, but it has been GOOD work. I have had to re-visit some deep wounds from my past. I have confessed to Steve things that I did in the past, and things I have done recently, that I have never confessed to anyone. He has been an incredibly gracious, patient, insightful listener. I came to a point where it became clear to me that I needed to disclose some things to my wife that I had been hiding from her for twenty years. Steve guided me through that process. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, but it has led to a significantly increased degree of trust and intimacy between my wife and myself. Honestly, our sex life has never been better. I feel so much cleaner than I used to; I feel like there's a level of purity in our sex life that has been regained. Along the way, Steve has recommended numerous helpful books to me, and he encouraged me to go to the Hearts Alive and Free event (which is patterned after the Wild at Heart Boot Camps) up in Lake City, which was without question THE most spiritually enriching retreat I've ever been to. At the retreat, I made myself a vow: I plan to return to Hearts Alive and Free next year, and I don't want to have looked at porn or masturbated once in that whole year. I don't know if I'll be successful at that or not. The porn and the masturbation, I now understand, are symptoms of a deeper problem. It's a spiritual and emotional problem. I have to keep working to heal my wounds from long ago, and Steve is helping me with that - giving me a safe place to talk. I also have to build a deeper relationship with God, and a stronger, more intimate life of prayer. Steve has been helping me with that too, inviting me to go deeper in my relationship with God than I've ever gone before, and praying with and for me. It's scary at times. But it is so incredibly worth it. I feel like I'm gaining a freedom I've never had before. If you're a guy dealing with any of the issues I'm struggling with, or other similar issues, I would strongly encourage you to give Steve a call and set up an appointment. He's really good at this stuff. The sooner you make that call, the sooner you'll start finding freedom.

Counseling
Steve is a great counselor! He takes the time to really listen and understand what you are going through before offering his support and advice. He treats you with dignity and respect and is easy to talk to. I would recommend his services to anyone. If you don't live in his area he can counsel online via FaceTime.
